Titanium, Tungsten wedding ring is it harder wearing than gold?
Hi
We’re looking for wedding rings, I was in a jewellers today and the assistant told me Titanium & Tungsten rings are harder wearing for people who do ‘hands on work’ my partner is a gardener so operates machinery and is lifting stuff about. I wanted to ask if anyone has any knowledge of these kinds of wedding rings and if the assistant is right?
Gold requires more maintenance. Titanium is a harder metal than gold. Tungsten never scratches and Titanium is a very hard metal. Both of these are excellent choices and good for people who work with their hands. Here is an article that goes more into detail about the metals and their pro’s and con’s: http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds_info/t/articles.aspx?articleid=809&zoneid=16
Good Luck!

Titanium is dangerous for a "hard on the hands" type of job. The metal can be crushed (crushing your finger at the same time) but it’s VERY difficult to cut off.
Tungsten shatters before it bends, so it’s actually very good for someone with a high probability of crushing the ring in their line of work. (Good, as long as you don’t mind replacing it, that is!)
I personally suggest tungsten, a lot of the men who work in the shop at my business have tungsten rings, or just don’t wear their rings at work. Good luck!

That doesn’t sound accurate to me, but then I don’t have a lot of experience with these metals. Perhaps she is referencing the myth that in the event of an injury titanium and tungsten can not easily be removed.

My fiance is an underground miner. They work a lot with heavy equipment and falling rocks and what not. Most of the miners swear by tungsten. The reason for that is that in case of an emergency tungsten rings are easier to remove than titanium. People will dispute this back and forth but fiance used to be on the mine rescue team. And the people on the mine rescue team agree that the tungsten is the easier of the 2 to remove when you don’t have time to get to a hospital where they have all the right tools. His mine is a good 2 hours to the nearest hospital. Neither metals really scratch and if they do its a manufacturing defect and most jewelry stores will replace it for no fee.

My husband ring is titanium, he loves it, its a strong metal, so therefore it has no scratches, or dings.. but he takes off his ring when he is operating machinery… not to protect the ring, but his fingers, in case the ring got caught…

I don’t know about titanium but my husband and I got a pair of tungsten wedding bands from http://www.larsonjewelers.com/ and we could not be happier. My husband is a teacher but he still works with his hands a lot. We have had them for a few years now and they have not gotten a single scratch on them. They’re actually quite comfortable.
