If the law is the following what right do the Queensland police have to contact another countries embassy?

Are government organisations obliged to keep my information confidential?

Government organisations at both state and federal levels are obliged to keep your personal information confidential unless ordered by a court to produce it or your information is subpoenaed ie required as evidence in court.

The police have the same right as anyone else to contact anyone they like. There’s no law saying that because someone is a police officer, they are therefore not permitted to contact a foreign embassy.

Government organisations are required to keep certain information confidential. The extent of the obligation depends on which government organisation, and what type of information.

why did you ask this question if you seem to know the answer already?

And, you really didn’t elaborate the circumstances very much. Maybe the police want to contact the other country’s embassy to get a good recipe for Moo Goo Gai Pan. Be more specific please.

What type of "personal information" are you talking about? Name, address, phone number, criminal record, etc. are all public information and available to anyone that wants it.
