What are the most common household bugs in Queensland?

Moving down to Queensland in about a month, and someone brought up a very big detail I missed.

What sort of household bugs are common there, and just how common? I’ve already been told about Huntsman spiders ( D: ), but how worried should I be?

I’m pretty terrified of most bugs except the smaller ones in the western part of the USA, and things that fly.I’m prepared to face my fears to some degree but I’m not sure just what I should expect!

There’s nothing to worry about at all.

As you’ve heard, Huntsman spiders can be pretty big, but they’re harmless and very timid. Some places have poisonous (but not deadly) redback spiders but they live outside in predictable places and a squirt of insect spray does the trick with them – I’ve lived here for 35 years and have never actually seen a poisonous spider and I doubt if you will either. Sydney’s the place for deadly funnelweb spiders and it’s a 1000 km from here. Other Australian states have gazillions of flies, but that’s not a problem in Brisbane; I wouldn’t see more than a dozen in a year. We have mozzies and tiny midges which can give very itchy bites if you’re sensitive to them and moths and cockroaches but since our house acquired a few cute little geckos, we rarely see any bugs inside.

The usual flies & mozzies , particularly in Summer….we get the harmless varieties of spiders , nothing to be concerned about ……the geckos sort most of them out !

Apart from that , not a lot …we live outside the urban area so in summer we see an occasional snake but they will keep out of your way unless annoyed.

Cockroaches and ants are the most common that you will see but one can get rid of them although the cockroaches usually sleep in Winter the time to put down bait or get pest control in is early Summer. Ants can be a nuisance some are so tiny and they can get into your home so never leave food around especially something sweet they will smell it from a far but there again one can take precautions. Mozzies are usually around at dawn and dusk so avoid sitting outside thenunless you have mozzie repelent on. Flys are not a problem near the ocean the occasional one comes in . Red back spiders go for things out doors like out door furniture or plant pots their web is a fine tangle so if you see that then carefully take a look and give them a burst of spray.Geckos I find a nuisance they can get into your airconditioner leave droppings and go tutututuas for other spiders they are rare to see. But saying all this one can go along time with out seeing anything annoying. I don’t find them to much of a problem and I hate these things as well. You really dont have anything much to worry about.
