Edith Piaf – Autumn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes)

October 28, 2009 - 12:31 am 25 Comments

The falling leaves
Drift by the window
The autumn leaves
All red and gold
I see your lips
The summer kisses
The sunburned hands
I used to hold.

Since you went away
The days grow long…
And soon I’ll hear
Old winter songs
But I miss you most of all
My darling, when autumn leaves start to fall…

C’est un chanson
Qui nous ressemble
Toi qui m’aimais
Et je t’aimais
Nous vivions tous les deux ensemble
Tou qui m’aimais
Moi qui t’aimais

Mais la vie sépare
Ceux qui s’aiment
Tout doucement
Sans faire de bruit
Et la mer efface sur le sable
Les pas des amants désunis.

Since you went away
The days grow long…
And soon I’ll hear
Old winter songs
But I miss you most of all
My darling, when autumn leaves start to fall…

    This is pretty much …
This is pretty much correct, but the second line is “That we resemble” and “I loved that” should be “I who loved you”. Fairly simple song, so it doesn’t give an automated translation any trouble. xD

    “It is a song
    Who we like
    You who loved me
    And I loved you
    We lived both together
    You who loved me
    I loved that

    But life separates
    Those who love
    Slowly
    Quietly
And the sea erases on the sand
    The footsteps of estranged lovers.”

    Ah, online translators.. good enough.

La grande Edith nous donne avec cette magnifique chanson, une interprétation bilingue de qualité.
Son talent est immense et souvent inégalable mais la version de Montand plus connue est effectivement (peut être) meilleure.
