What type of clothing do people from Queensland, Australia wear?

April 25, 2011 - 9:52 am 16 Comments

I am doing a project and my teacher told us to pick a place and I picked Queensland, Australia because i love Australian accents and Queensland sounded fancy. So we have to draw what they would normally wear. Like if i were to visit that place, what type of clothing would i see them wear. Also we have to draw what would their natives wear.

Because of our warm / hot climate we generally wear casual clothes ….even suits & ties for men are not as common as they once were !

Women certainly dress to the climate….

How do I become a teacher in Queensland?

January 29, 2011 - 6:16 pm 1 Comment

I’ve already got a degree (BVA) in Film & Television Production and I would like to teach film in Queensland high schools. I know that I need another qualification to teach…is it a Graduate Diploma in Education? I’ve also heard of Preservice Teacher Education Programs, what is that?

I believe you need a diploma of education and I believe it’s for a year it runs. Maybe 2. If I were you I would ring up a school around your area and ask about potential teaching jobs etc.

How can I help with the Queensland flood crisis?

January 19, 2011 - 9:12 pm 2 Comments

I live in Melbourne but would be willing travel to Queensland to help out in any way I can. I want to do it because I just feel that it’s the right thing to do and I need to get away anyway.

My sympathies to all those affected.

Well if you are looking to get away then there is no better option then to help out wherever you can. Giving cash is all well and good but it is not going to cover the cost of getting in a builder and paying them to do jobs that can be done by a handyman or women for that matter!

What do 2 US citizens flying to Queensland Australia need to go through customs there?

January 7, 2011 - 10:12 pm 5 Comments

My husband and me are possibly going to fly to Queensland Australia in 2011. It is our first trip out of US. We would like to know what is necessary for us to have in order to be accepted into Australia and get through customs there. Realizing, of course, we will first need our passports! But we’ve heard that the Aussie’s are very careful about what they allow to come into their country…for which we are happy! We appreciate any input from those who have traveled to Australia. Thank you.

Apart from your passports, you’ll also need a visa before you board the plane.

If you want to stay for under 3 months, the only visa you need is an ETA which you can get online from the official government site for a service charge of $20. No work is allowed on an ETA.

If you want to stay for between 3 and 12 months, you’ll need a subclass 676 Tourist visa which you can also get online. Cost is $105. No work is allowed on a Tourist visa.

Australia’s quarantine regulations are very strict and you should not bring any food, plant material or animal products and that includes things like a piece of fruit you got on the plane, a chocolate bar or your favourite straw hat. If you do bring anything, it MUST be declared on your Incoming Passenger card so that it can be inspected and passed, treated or destroyed as appropriate. Most fully processed items will be passed as OK, but declare them and let our quarantine people decide. Take care to declare everything – the sniffer dogs will pick them up if you don’t.

Apart from quarantine considerations, all firearms and weapons of any kind must be declared, but don’t bother bringing any – you won’t need them here. You need to declare all drugs and medicines including prescription medications, alternative, herbal and traditional medicines, vitamin and mineral preparation formulas. Some products require a permit or quarantine clearance and/or a letter or prescription from your doctor describing your medication and medical condition.

There is no limit to the amount of currency you can bring into Australia. However, you must declare amounts of A$10,000 or more in Australian currency or foreign equivalent.

Reading the above makes it sound as if we’re really hard to get along with, but it’s just that other countries have pests and other problems that we don’t have here and we’d like to keep it that way. You’re very welcome here and will have a great time.

EDIT:
You will not be allowed to board a plane heading to Australia if you don’t already have a visa. They are not issued automatically.

December 27, 2010 - 8:31 pm 1 Comment

I’ve been looking all over the internet for information on the process of setting up a Statutory Body in Queensland, but I can’t find a single thing. Do you need to register somewhere, are there forms to be filled out, which government department do you need to contact?

there is no such process.

I m planning to apply for Australia PR under State Sponsored (from Queensland). I need to know how much fund is required to show for Queensland state. under 176 visa category.

It’s 30k for the first applicant, plus more for each additional applicant. It works out to 38k for a couple with 2 kids.

What breed of bunny/guinea pig are you allowed in Queensland?

December 19, 2010 - 7:51 pm 1 Comment

I heard from a friend of mine there is a type of bunny or guinea pig (looks like a bunny rabbit) you are allowed to keep in Queensland. And I am well aware that having rabbits in Queensland is illegal !

It sucks soooo bad that we are not allowed rabbits(or ferrets) in Qld. I share your pain lol. But as far as a breed of guinea pig that looks like a rabbit…Do you mean with long ears? There is no such breed. You can have any breed(when I say breed I am meaning coat type, there isn’t really a ”breed” of guinea pig, like dogs or cats lol) of guinea pig you wish, there is no illegal guinea pig.

There is a breed of g/pig that looks like a cuddly teddy bear, and that is the rex. They have tight fuzzed fur, curly whiskers, they can weigh more than most breeds of guinea pigs at adult age, have big droopy ears(not half as big as rabbits, but they are bigger ears than other types of guinea pigs) and have a brick like face that adds to their cuteness. These features are the purebred standard. As for any other types, I personally have never come across a guinea pig where I have gone ”hey, that looks like a bunny!”.

As far as I am aware there is no breed of rabbit that we are allowed here. I know for a fact we still have wild hares around the place(they get bigger than your cotton tailed bunnies) as we see them when we are out driving around early in the morning, and we have seen one or two cute cotton tailed bunnies hopping around, but I also know that if you get busted with any of these as domesticated pets, they will take the animal off of you and euthanise it straight away, no questions asked. You may even get a big fine.

I do know you could get away with having one on the border(like Tweed Heads if you live down the Gold Coast) but I wouldn’t risk it anywhere else. I also got an email from one of the ferret forums I was a part of saying that if you had a ferret in your place and the authorities come knocking to not answer the door, put the ferret into the car and high-tail it for the border. The minute you are over it, no one can do anything about it. If you do get caught however…Lights out for your beloved pet :- (

Best of luck, I am curious to see anyone else’s answer, too, as certain as I am that there is no such thing, I am curious to see what someone else has to say! Stupid Qld rules, I was born in Gosford, NSW, but my parents moved up here when I was a bub(dang ‘em!). I can sort of understand the bio security nonsense, but if NSW can…Why can’t we?!?!

Where in far north queensland has a good atmosphere for young people?

December 17, 2010 - 10:57 pm 3 Comments

I am looking to move to queensland and i dont want to live on the gold coast or any really touristy areas. I want somewhere that is family friendly but still has a good atmosphere.

I am 23 so i dont want it to be a retirement town basically…
And also, would it be easy to find work in there places, probably in retail?

Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast.
Cairns and Townsville are okay but alot further north, really hot, yuck weather, with less opportunity and smaller in size.

You should be able to find work in retail anywhere in QLD.
