Beach Boys – I can hear music 1969
“I Can Hear Music” is a song written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil
Spector and performed by the Ronettes (1966).
Later the song was covered by the The Beach Boys. They released it on their 1969 album 20/20 with Carl Wilson on lead vocals, and was their first single released in stereo.
With Brian Wilson losing more and more interest in producing for the Beach Boys, younger brother Carl “stepped in” as the role of producer and lead Beach Boy.
This song is considered by many as Carl Wilson’s first taste at being the “leader” of the group. The song is also notable for being the first Beach Boys song that Brian did not sing on.
‘I can hear music’ reached #24 in US and #10 in UK.
Ahhhhhh oooooo
This is the way
I always dreamed it would be
The way that it is, oh oh
When you are holding me
I never had a love of my own
Maybe that’s why when we’re all alone
I can hear music
I can hear music
The sound of the city baby seems to disappear
I can hear music
Sweet sweet music
Whenever you touch me baby
Whenever you’re near
Lovin’ you
It keeps me satisfied
And I can’t explain, oh no
The way I’m feeling inside
You look at me we kiss and then
I close my eyes and here it comes again
I can hear music
I can hear music
The sound of the city baby seems to disappear
I can hear music
Sweet sweet music
Whenever you touch me baby
Whenever you’re near
I hear the music all the time, yeah
I hear the music, hold me tight now baby
I hear the music all the time
I hear the music
I hear the music (baby)
Ahhhhh
I can hear music
I can hear music
The sound of the city baby seems to disappear
I can hear music

What’s the deal …
What’s the deal with *The Beach Boys* these days? It’s only love and one other guy. Jardine is off doing his own thing with his sons calling their group *never-ending summer* or something. There was some legal dispute or something. It’s a shame what the group has gone through.

I love the way Mike …
I love the way Mike is standing behind the mic trying to find something to do. It really him off later on when they stopped using him as the lead singer, and he didn’t even play an instrument, so he basically stood on stage doing nothing and looking like an idiot.
