Anybody ever had a small wedding ceremony on a beach?
My girlfriend is from Romania. She will be coming back to the states to be with me and we are planning on getting married. She always talks about the beach and everything. So, I thought maybe we could just go to the local county clerk to get the license, then drive down to the beach and get married. Her family of course is in Romania, so there really won’t be anyone from her side of the family, so we are probably going to keep it pretty small. Then maybe after we are married we can travel to Romania and show her family. Any ideas or tips about beach weddings? Thanks.
A girlfriend of mine had a beach wedding not so long ago, and let me tell you it was an interesting event! It was very simple- minister along with parents on each side and an additional witness on each side. I suppose these would have been considered a ‘bridesmaid’ and a groomsman had it been a larger affair.
Consider the tide! Especially if you’re going to have any ‘permanent’ fixtures set up for your wedding ceremony. Many people don’t consider things like tide and weather, especially if their party is small and casual. Are you having your reception on the beach too? That’d be awesome- maybe a bonfire. My girlfriend and her groom had a large dining table set up, and it was all decked out for this incredible reception dinner. She used this company she found online for many of her wedding decorations, and she had the cutest favors (great beach-themed stuff!). I have the site…they have the best prices too!

Congratulations! A beach wedding is a wonderful way to get married. You will need to find a beach you like, and allows you to be married on it, some needs a license. Hire your officiant, and your ready. You can have it simple, or bring the level up, by having an arch to be married under. Plan when you are getting married. Do you want a sunset wedding, early morning, etc.? Remember it can get hot, so take that into consideration. You can find most of the information on the web. Check out my website http://www.marriedbyterry.com and that may answer some questions and give you ideas. Good Luck!

Congratulations. Beach weddings are my favorite. Some localities require a permit for a beach ceremony – check with the parks and rec department of the county or the beach commission of the state. I actually had one county clerk tell me that since the wedding was so small (the couple and two witnesses) that if we didn’t attract attention to ourselves that we’d be fine… Where i am we also have some city owned parks that overlook the ocean and those are pretty sites, too.

You have gotten some good advise here.
I am a seamstress, so of course I think about clothing. Wear casual clothing that are not made of fine fabrics that will hold up to beach conditions of water and sand.
The best beach weddings are the simplest. The last beach wedding I attended was perfect. The groom wore a white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He wore a pair of tan docker pants with the cuffs rolled up and bare feet. The bride wore a tea length dress (above the ankles) and no veil (they blow all over the place and are a nuisance to wear outside), but she did wear a sweet wreath of flowers on her head. She also had no shoes on and the special touch of a floral wreath around one ankle was so charming. The bride and groom together looked so comfortable and happy as their clothing was so appropriate for a beach wedding. And, the guests were asked to bring their own seating. One couple brought a park bench to sit upon, others brought beach chairs and some were comfortable to sit on a blanket. It was perfect. Also, the bride and groom provided buckets of ice filled with water bottles. It was just perfect.
Weddings have become such big business and I so respect the people who get down to basics, the ceremony. That is what it is all about, the ceremony.
