December 27, 2010 - 8:31 pm 1 Comment

I’ve been looking all over the internet for information on the process of setting up a Statutory Body in Queensland, but I can’t find a single thing. Do you need to register somewhere, are there forms to be filled out, which government department do you need to contact?

there is no such process.

I m planning to apply for Australia PR under State Sponsored (from Queensland). I need to know how much fund is required to show for Queensland state. under 176 visa category.

It’s 30k for the first applicant, plus more for each additional applicant. It works out to 38k for a couple with 2 kids.

What is the law regarding beach shelters, setting up in front of you, blocking your view at the beach?

December 21, 2010 - 8:36 pm 2 Comments

Sunday we went to the beach, beautiful day and view. Then along comes a family and sets up their beach shelter in front of us by the water, spoiling our view. Then along comes another a bit further along and does the same. There were many shelters at the beach, but most use their heads and set up back up the beach a bit so as not to spoil peoples views. Is there any law to stop people blocking our view.

No, those laws only stop people from blocking your view permanently, because it would lower your property value. Theres no law to my knowledge that says they can’t set up a shelter for the day on a PUBLIC beach…

What breed of bunny/guinea pig are you allowed in Queensland?

December 19, 2010 - 7:51 pm 1 Comment

I heard from a friend of mine there is a type of bunny or guinea pig (looks like a bunny rabbit) you are allowed to keep in Queensland. And I am well aware that having rabbits in Queensland is illegal !

It sucks soooo bad that we are not allowed rabbits(or ferrets) in Qld. I share your pain lol. But as far as a breed of guinea pig that looks like a rabbit…Do you mean with long ears? There is no such breed. You can have any breed(when I say breed I am meaning coat type, there isn’t really a ”breed” of guinea pig, like dogs or cats lol) of guinea pig you wish, there is no illegal guinea pig.

There is a breed of g/pig that looks like a cuddly teddy bear, and that is the rex. They have tight fuzzed fur, curly whiskers, they can weigh more than most breeds of guinea pigs at adult age, have big droopy ears(not half as big as rabbits, but they are bigger ears than other types of guinea pigs) and have a brick like face that adds to their cuteness. These features are the purebred standard. As for any other types, I personally have never come across a guinea pig where I have gone ”hey, that looks like a bunny!”.

As far as I am aware there is no breed of rabbit that we are allowed here. I know for a fact we still have wild hares around the place(they get bigger than your cotton tailed bunnies) as we see them when we are out driving around early in the morning, and we have seen one or two cute cotton tailed bunnies hopping around, but I also know that if you get busted with any of these as domesticated pets, they will take the animal off of you and euthanise it straight away, no questions asked. You may even get a big fine.

I do know you could get away with having one on the border(like Tweed Heads if you live down the Gold Coast) but I wouldn’t risk it anywhere else. I also got an email from one of the ferret forums I was a part of saying that if you had a ferret in your place and the authorities come knocking to not answer the door, put the ferret into the car and high-tail it for the border. The minute you are over it, no one can do anything about it. If you do get caught however…Lights out for your beloved pet :- (

Best of luck, I am curious to see anyone else’s answer, too, as certain as I am that there is no such thing, I am curious to see what someone else has to say! Stupid Qld rules, I was born in Gosford, NSW, but my parents moved up here when I was a bub(dang ‘em!). I can sort of understand the bio security nonsense, but if NSW can…Why can’t we?!?!

Where in far north queensland has a good atmosphere for young people?

December 17, 2010 - 10:57 pm 3 Comments

I am looking to move to queensland and i dont want to live on the gold coast or any really touristy areas. I want somewhere that is family friendly but still has a good atmosphere.

I am 23 so i dont want it to be a retirement town basically…
And also, would it be easy to find work in there places, probably in retail?

Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast.
Cairns and Townsville are okay but alot further north, really hot, yuck weather, with less opportunity and smaller in size.

You should be able to find work in retail anywhere in QLD.

Why do indoor cats eat indoor cat food and not regular cat food?

December 13, 2010 - 7:04 pm 5 Comments

Is there something wrong with regular cat food that’s bad for indoor cats? Why can’t it all be the same?

It’s a marketing ploy. Most high quality foods are all life stages (kitten thru senior) and for indoor or outdoor cats. By labeling a food with a specialized formulas they appeal to humans that want to do the best for their pets. But really the best thing you can do for your pet is read the ingredients. There should be no corn, wheat, or by-products. The first ingredient should be a named meat meal such as "chicken meal" unless it’s canned food, where you’ll see real meats such as "chicken liver." There should be 35% or more protein for dry and 9-11% ish for wet food.

How well will an indoor aerial work if our house has a digital aerial?

December 11, 2010 - 7:31 pm 5 Comments

We’ve just had a digital aerial fitted to our house (a student property) and the aerial connection is in the lounge area. Will an indoor aerial be able to pick up the signal or will it require a cable up to the separate room that we want the television in?

"We’ve just had a digital aerial fitted to our house…"

Oh dear, someone else who has been conned in the great digital aerial scam.

There is no such thing as a "digital" aerial – they do not exist (except in the minds of aerial salesman). All aerials work in the analogue domain.

What can running on the beach do to help and harm the body?

December 9, 2010 - 10:12 pm 1 Comment

Im a freshman @ park vista high school in lake worth florida and my 40 time is 4.70, and i think the coaches are thinking about moving me up to jv, and i wanna get faster and i’ve always heard that running on the beach helps the lower body. How does running on the beach helpful to the body in general?

Because it isn’t a firm surface, it will work the stability muscles in your feet, ankles, and calves, which will reduce the chances of getting hurt. But if you run on the beach too much when you start out, you have a better likelihood of straining one of those muscles than if you ran anywhere else.
